We usually have at least one class that meets at 9:00 AM. There are other bible studies that also meet throughout the week and we often will offer a class on Sunday nights. But we have chosen to emphasize home-based small groups over these other learning options. We see several advantages to this model:

1. Small groups are more flexibility. They can meet on any night in any available home and adjust the start and finish times to the attendees.
2. Small groups don’t have the time limits that Sunday School usually has. Groups can meet longer and by doing so can incorporate more into their meetings.
3. Small groups are a better fit for our discipleship & outreach strategy. Small groups should be designed so that spiritual transformation is happening in them and because of that inner change, outreach is a natural outflow.
4. Small Groups allow for pastoral ministry to take place more effectively than most Sunday School models. We see our group leaders as being “under-shepherds” of our flock responsible for those in their group. Small Groups spreads that ministry out further than a Sunday morning program could.

Historical note: Sunday School has morphed from its original intention.  Sunday School originated in the late 18th century as an evangelistic tool to reach street kids with the gospel by teaching them the Bible and practical tips for life in a fun environment.
